MAROUBRA BEACH, SYDNEY (Sunday, 26 July 2015): Four new NSW Junior Champions were crowned today as the NRMA NSW Grommet Titles wrapped up in difficult one-foot waves at Maroubra Beach.

George Pittar (North Manly) was victorious in the Under-14 Boys posting a near perfect 9.43 wave score. While other finalists chose to catch an abundance of waves, Pittar sat patiently and relied on the strength of two single waves. Fellow finalists Finn Hill (Avoca) and Joel Vaughan (Bateau Bay) got within striking distance of the win, posting heat totals in the 12-point range, but couldn’t topple Pittar from the top position.

Cedar Leigh-Jones (Avalon) dominated the Under-14 Girls division, posting a massive 18.50 heat total (out of a possible 20 points). The lightweight Northern Beaches natural-footer performed a barrage of mammoth turns to post the aforementioned score and cement her spot in the NRMA NSW Team for the upcoming Australian Junior Titles in December. As a result of the heat score, fellow finalists Jesse Starling (Collaroy), Nyxie Ryan (Lennox Head) and Mackenzie Davidson (Shelly Beach) were all left chasing a combination of scores to snatch the lead from Leigh-Jones.

Winter Vincent (Manly) capped off his NRMA NSW Grommet Titles campaign in style, taking out the Under-12 Boys final. Vincent performed a flurry of solid turns on tiny waves to post a heat total of 14.50 and get the edge over his opposition. Over the course of the three-day event, the Northern Beaches natural-footer never posted a heat total under 13.17.

California Barrett (Banora Point) had a successful weekend in Maroubra, taking out the Under-12 Girls division. Barrett took out the hotly contested final with an impressive 15.17 heat total, which consequently gave her the upper hand against her opposition. Gabi Spake (Collaroy) put up a valiant fight, posting a 7.17 wave score, but ultimately had to settle for second position.

The NRMA NSW Grommet Titles was run concurrently with the Beachbreaks Festival, which saw a range of festival activations taking place over the course of Sunday, 26th July.

Over 120 competitors competed in the event, which will determined the NSW champions in the Under-14 and Under-12 divisions.
