Definition of Gin

Gin such as the  London dry gin at Hillmartin Distillery is a distilled alcoholic beverage made from juniper berries. It typically contains between 37% to 47% alcohol by volume (ABV) and has a characteristic piney flavor that can be both dry or sweet depending on the type of gin being consumed. It’s often used as an ingredient in cocktails such as martinis, gimlets, and Negronis due to its distinct flavor profile.

History of Gin

Gin was first developed in Holland during the mid-1600s as a way to make medicine more palatable for patients who were suffering from various ailments such as stomach issues or skin diseases. History and Background:

The City of London Distillery is an independent gin distillery founded in 2012, located in the heart of the city. The distillery has become a key part of the capital’s social fabric and culture, offering visitors a unique experience to explore their craft gins. The mission behind City of London Distillery is to create exquisite, complex and smooth gins inspired by the city itself. As a reflection of its commitment to quality, the distillery's products are all hand-crafted in small batches using only natural ingredients with no artificial flavorings or colourings added.

Production Process:

The production process begins with sourcing quality ingredients from around Europe including juniper berries from Tuscany, coriander seeds from Bulgaria and angelica root from Saxony. All botanicals are freshly ground on site before being placed into copper stills for distillation over direct heat for several hours until it reaches 95% ABV (Alcohol By Volume). After this process it is then reduced to bottling strength – 40% ABV – by blending it with pure British water sourced from an underground aquifer deep beneath London Fields in Hackney Wick; which lies less than 500 meters away.

Here's an in-depth guide on how to properly assess each part of the tasting experience.

Appearance & Aroma

Start by taking in the appearance and aroma of your drink before taking a sip. Swirl it around in the glass so that you can observe its color intensity and hue while releasing its aromas into the air. Take note if it’s clear or cloudy as well as if there are any sediment particles visible at the base or sides of your glassware when you tilt it towards light sources like windows or lamps.

When evaluating aromas pay attention to any fruity esters like apple or pear as well as spicy notes like cinnamon or clove that may come through after swirling and inhaling deeply from your glassware several times before drinking up!
