All over the world more and more people are struggling to sleep and are battling sleeping disorders. But what is causing the problems people are experiencing with sleep?

In Australia, researchers found that the Australian economy took a hit of 12 billion Australian Dollars due to decreased productivity because of sleep deprivation.

If you are among the many people who struggle to get enough sleep then you need to check out how you can get a better night’s sleep.

What Are the Common Reasons People Can’t Sleep?

There are two categories why people can’t sleep; physical interruptions and psychological interruptions.

Physical interruptions include not having the right sleeping environment or being comfortable. For example, you might have a mattress that is too old and uncomfortable, or your pillows might not give your neck and head enough support whilst you sleep.

It is often fairly easy to fix physical problems. You can invest in a new pillows or a new mattress that fulfils your sleeping needs. If you wake up in the morning and you experience aches and pains it is definitely worth investing in new pillows and/or a mattress that can provide you with the support you need.

Physical interruptions might also relate to environmental problems, such as it being too light or too noisy for you to get a good night’s sleep. If this is the case, you might want to introduce new blinds or curtains to your room and get some earplugs.

Psychological interruptions relate more to the emotional state of a person. Insomnia can be caused by stress, anxiety, and depression. To address the underlying issues of insomnia you might need to seek medical advice and help.

Other reasons why people struggle to sleep include not giving themselves a break from screens before bed, not getting enough daylight during the day, and not getting enough exercise during the day.

How to Sleep Better

In 2017, it was estimated that 4 in 10 Australian adults (or 7.4 million people) struggle to sleep or get inadequate amounts of sleep.

Losing sleep can have serious implications on your health and cause you to be less self-aware, which can result in death. Luckily, there are simple things you can do to get a better night’s sleep.

Whether you toss and turn all night trying to turn off the thoughts in your head, or you spend too much time on your phone or watching TV before bed, there are a number of things you can try to ensure you sleep better.

The first thing you need are very good Yinahla mattresses to try is introducing a bedtime routine.

Part of your routine should include not looking at a screen after a certain time, i.e. allow at least an hour before bed without going on your phone. You also need to make sure you stick to your routine and don’t switch up your sleeping times. Those lie-ins on the weekends aren’t actually helpful.

Another way you can improve your sleep is by ensuring you get plenty of exercise. The more physical activity you do during the day, the longer you are likely to be in a deep sleep at night. Deep sleep is an essential part of feeling well rested.

You might also want to avoid eating or drinking after a certain time each evening. Especially avoid drinking caffeine several hours before you want to be asleep. Even when you go to sleep your body is still working to process the things you have put in it throughout the day, so try giving it less work to do and you might be able to sleep better.
