If you were able to get a snapshot of every single fridge in Australia, you would likely find many different paintings and pictures from kids on the doors. When our children go to school and they return with any kind of art, it goes straight onto the fridge because we are so proud of what they have achieved and we want them to know it. There is so much more to art than many people realise and while the Australian government keeps pushing science and math, art is also essential for child development.

It is up to you as a parent to find out if there is a future famous painter within your child and so you have to do everything that you can to encourage them. One of the first things that you could do is to purchase some abstract art and display it proudly throughout your home. You can talk to your child about it and how it makes them feel. What you’re trying to do as a parent is to introduce art that will inspire your kid to want to learn more. If you are a little unsure as to how art can benefit your child then the following is something that you need to know.

 It helps with their motor skills - Art is the perfect way to encourage your child to improve their hand-eye coordination. Encouraging them to pick up a paintbrush or pencil and to draw many different shapes and do some colouring in, all helps with their hand-eye coordination.

 It helps with language development - By displaying art within your home, you’re providing your child with an opportunity to talk to you about the different colours and shapes that are contained within it. Abstract art is perfect for this because many people see different things every time they look at it.

 It’s good for the brain - We all want our kids to grow up to be incredibly smart and so we want to improve upon their IQs, their problem-solving skills and their critical thinking skills as well. Doing art and looking at art helps to develop your child’s brain in many different ways.

As well as providing your child with the above skills, they will also become more aware of the world around them because art can depict many different traditions and cultures from all around the world outside Australia.
