Getting out in nature does wonders for your body, mind, and social wellbeing
Try GrassFit: the new craze guaranteed to tighten your gr(ass) this spring
Sam Wood, in partnership with garden care brand Scotts, shows how easy it is to sculpt a tighter (gr)ass: giving your garden the nourishment it needs while bettering your physical and mental health too.
Time poor Aussies are receiving a helping hand by garden care brand Scotts to swap the treadmill for turf this Spring with the launch of GrassFit – a cheat’s guide to a lush lawn that will simultaneously give them a shortcut to a healthier and happy version of themselves.
Getting out in nature does wonders for your body, mind, and social wellbeing, with research telling us that grounding yourself on grass is great for your brain[1]. And with nearly three quarters of the nation (73%)[2] considering our lawns very much a relevant and loved part of Aussie life, you’d think it’s a no brainer. But we don’t always have time to exercise, let alone go forest bathing.
Drawing on the benefits of horticultural therapy and addressing the concern by 9 in 10 Aussies[3] wanting to change at least something about their backyard, the online downloadable GrassFit program- developed in partnership with Fitness Trainer Sam Wood, Founder of 28 by Sam Wood – is a quick, foolproof guide for simply achieving a lusher lawn and a lusher you, with a grass-led workout that will see you reaping what you sow in mow time.
Sam Wood says: “My backyard is my – and my family’s – happy place. With the grass between our toes, we instantly feel calmer and more relaxed. But, like most Aussie families, we are often pressed for time.
“GrassFit is a wellness program filled with shortcuts that keep my lawn looking lush while I keep myself in good shape – mentally and physically. Feeding the lawn only takes 10 minutes, and I’m in the great outdoors. Mowing? I turn it into a quick HIIT workout. Picking up bags of lawn food? I transform those into weights for Lawn Lunges. Get the kids involved too – they’ll love it,” Sam continued.
Our lawns need a health check
Further statistics from Scotts’ Aussie Backyard Study[4] revealed that:
When it comes to our lawns, the nation’s biggest gripes are the weeds (46%), closely followed by the desire for thicker, more lush grass (40%) and want for a healthier lawn (34%).
Almost two in five (39%) even go as far as to say they often forget their lawn and neglect it.[5] We’re so busy, we rarely take a moment outside to stop and smell the roses.
But all is not lost… 8 in 10 (80%) of us love the simple joy of walking barefoot on the grass; longing for a lush lawn is certainly on our minds.
When it comes to creating the perfect lawn, over half (54%) of Aussies want thicker, healthier grass but aren’t sure why they should use lawn food.
