If you have a damaged pipe on your property, you'll want to get it repaired as quickly as possible to prevent extensive, costly water damage to your property. Replacing and relining are the two most common methods for fixing damaged pipes, and it is important to understand the distinctions between the two.

Replacing a pipe involves digging a trench for access, then installing a new pipe in place of the old one before refilling the trench. With pipe relining, your technician will create a seal on the inside of the pipe with a hard, durable resin material. With the exception of cases involving severe damage, pipe relining is nearly always a better option, and here's why.

Save Time

For starters, pipe relining is much quicker than pipe replacement. Digging a trench takes quite a lot of time, as does refilling it when the job is done. Replacing a pipe can take a week or more due to the extensive labour involved. Pipe relining, on the other hand, is a relatively simple process that typically takes no more than a day. This way, you can get back to your daily life with minimal disruption.

Save Money

Less labour means lower costs, so you'll save a lot of money by relining your damaged pipe instead of replacing it. You won't have to replace any of your landscaping to recover a trench, so you'll save money in that area as well. Finally, relined pipes are significantly more durable than standard pipes, enabling you to save even more money on future repair or replacement costs.

Protect Your Plumbing

The relining process creates a smooth seal on the inside of the pipe. This makes it easier for water to flow through it and also helps to prevent any build-up from forming inside the pipe, like from minerals in the water supply or debris that makes its way down your drains. This can greatly extend the life of your plumbing system. Relined pipes are typically warrantied for 50 years or more, giving you ongoing peace of mind.

Keep Your Home and Property Tidy

Digging trenches can make a huge mess of your yard, and you'll find a similar effect for pipes inside your home. If a pipe is not easily accessible, like if it is inside your walls, your pipe replacement technicians will need to cut an access hole in the wall to reach the pipe. You'll then have to repair that hole in the wall and clean up any debris after the fact, creating more work, hassle and costs for you.

An Easy Choice

Because of all these benefits, pipe relining is clearly a better option for your home. The next time you discover a damaged pipe on your property, be sure to ask your pipe repair service provider whether you are a candidate for pipe relining. Your plumbing system will thank you.
